The appointment of Francesca McDonagh as new Bank of Ireland CEO should be well received given her significant retailing banking experience in both the UK and globally as a senior executive at HSBC. Key areas of focus for McDonagh will be implementing the new core banking system, improving returns in the UK business and capitalising on the recovery and growth in the Irish banking market. McDonagh will commence her role in October, and it is therefore likely to be with FY 2017 results (end-February 2018) when she will provide an outline strategy and targets.
