Irish economy - Property price inflation continues to accelerate

Residential property price inflation accelerated to 13% in April from 12.6% in March, according to the latest CSO data. While this series suggests tighter mortgage lending rules have yet to dent price inflation, approvals data point to a moderation in price inflation for mortgage-backed transactions. A lack of supply and rising leverage have been the key drivers of house price inflation to date, but the Central Bank rules will soon begin to bite in Greater Dublin – curtailing the pace of inflation.
